Shutter Island
Review: On his continued quest to delve into man’s propensity for violence, director Martin Scorsese borrows some ideas from Alfred Hitchcock and a stairwell from “The Red Shoes” to create a 1950’s style thriller where not everything is what it seems. Audiences who have become used to serious modern plot twists (“The Sixth Sense” being the best example) may find themselves waiting throughout the movie for the other shoe to drop, only to find there was only one in the first place. This makes the movie a little less thrilling, but lukewarm Scorsese beats piping hot Hollywood blockbuster any day. A good night out with a box of popcorn in any case. |
